a) Social security has schemes that are either contributor or
non- contributory. The schemes that happened to be non-
contributory take the form of social assistance and they are
funded by the government through tax, then the contributory
schemes are based on the principle of social insurance,
whereby people make contributions while working in order
to be eligible to be funded, if there are unemployed or
cannot work due to old age or ill health. The contributory
scheme deduct money from the individual and then the
employer is also able to contribute as well. The deductions
are then transferred to the retirement fund as a form of
insurance to cover when possible.

b) Yes they may claim the money from the occupational
diseases. The occupational act is the legislative tool that
controls occupants disease as well as injuries this act make
sure that all employees that are employed in the mine sector
are well-compensated should they become sick or injured
during work. This would mean that every employee that
works in the mine sector will be eligible to be funded by the
occupational diseases.
