Question 1 [10]

Provide a summary of the main points from the ILO policy note that focus on
occupational health and safety. Remember to references all the sources you consult.

Write or type your answer here:
According to the ILO policy on occupational health and safety, “protecting workers
and their families from the risk of infection needs to be a top priority”. This includes
health risks from COVID-19, but also the financial security. Various measures of
protection in the “workplace and across communities should be introduced and
strengthened, requiring large-scale public support and investment” (ILO Monitor 1st
Edition, 2020).

The ILO policy also suggests the following be put in place in the workplace to ensure
the protection of workers. As put forward by ILO Monitor 1st Edition, these include:
1. Strengthening OSH measures
2. Adapting work arrangements (e.g. teleworking)
3. Preventing discrimination and exclusion
4. Providing health access for all
5. Expand access to paid leave
