Answer the following question in full and remember

**Remarks by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the
occasion of Human Rights Day 2021**

, This essay seeks to explore the content of the speech given by President Cyril
Ramaphosa at the human rights commemoration in 2021. We seek to elucidate the
genre, the aim of the writing as well as the literary techniques that were used.

The type of text that we see in the excerpt is that of a political persuasive text. The
political part comes from the fact that it was a speech that was given by the
President of the country whose speech is always politically motivated. Persuasive in
the sense that in the text they mention that the government is making efforts to turn
around the economy for all. This statement is meant to win over those that had lost
faith in the government or those who thought were against the government.

The first time that we see the persuasive purpose in which they mention that the
government has with the civil society and social partners to make sure that the
human rights are given without any negotiations. In this light it serves to convince us
that the government cares for its citizens and that they would do everything in their
power to meet every human right. The fact that they make mention of the
Constitution of Bill Rights as the basis of the democracy. This also convinces the
audience that the policies made are based on the constitution which is based on the
human rights requirements. The President also goes to share that they have
provided the most important rights which are health, life and dignity. This convinces
the audience that the most important rights are those three and that other ones are
less important and that they should be grateful. In the last part of the excerpt they
call upon everyone to work together as a means to convince everyone that their
efforts are the key to determining that the country achieves the human rights
provision. In this case it makes the audience believe if there are any shortfalls in
terms of human rights delivery then they are partly to blame as it is a joint effort.

The speaker is President Cyril Ramaphosa who is the head of state for South Africa.
The speaker is representing the government as evident in the statement that he
mentions that the government has worked over the past year with civil society. Since
it was the President that was speaking it is safe to assume that he was representing
the ruling party.

The target audience for the speech is those people present at the occasion. Also at
the end makes a statement in which he says that all of us need to work hard so in
this part it serves to include everyone that resides in South Africa. This message is
