Question 1

1.1. Define Inclusive Education.

An inclusive education is a process that involves designing and implementing programs and
activities that are designed to help all students reach their full potential. This process aims to
ensure that all students can receive a quality education. It involves developing a framework
that is inclusive of all students, regardless of their backgrounds. In addition to being able to
meet their individual needs, the program also helps them overcome barriers that may prevent
them from participating in a regular education. An inclusive education program is carried out
in a common environment, which is an educational setting that's designed to provide a
welcoming environment for all students. This type of environment usually includes
classrooms, libraries, gymnasiums, music rooms, and other facilities. A common
environment isn't a place where students with special needs or intellectual disabilities feel
isolated. (Mahlo FD, 2022:2)

1.2. Discuss the following theories underpinning Inclusive Education.

1.2.1. Critical theory and its key principles.

Critical theory is a philosophical approach that focuses on criticizing the prevailing view of
society and social structure. In most cases, it focuses on the social stratification and group culture
of society, which it says contributes to the oppression and discrimination against people. In
education, critical theory aims to help students understand how their educational system can best
provide them with the best possible education. This kind of critical theory can also help eliminate
bullying and discrimination in schools. In an inclusive education, students are taught to respect
special students, but there has been an increase in discrimination and bullying in schools due to
this lack of recognition. Through critical theory, everyone has the right to education, and
teachers and students can't label students based on their weaknesses. This means that bullying
can cause permanent or temporary injuries to both the students and the teachers.

Key principles:

 Every student has the right to be able to go to school.
 Defend against social inequality and injustice.
 Human diversity is to be celebrated.
 Promotes the human rights of disabled people.
 In schools and society, it promotes peace by attempting to remove isolation, labeling,
bullying, and discrimination.
