Section 1 Experiential learning 1.1 Applied Contexts 1.2 Questions
1. I chose the developmental context. I chose this particular context because I am a teacher
and have many friends and family members who have primary school aged children
and younger as well as many friends who are teachers.
I gathered information through my own experience and by asking those around me with
young children. I also used the internet to find information I could not find in other
ways.
2. The developmental context of psychological assessment usually takes place in the
office of an educational psychologist though testing can be done by the appropriate
professionals in school settings (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2018).
3. How a child starts out, how they develop, learn, and grow often has a large impact on
development later on in life. It is widely recognized that for children with
developmental issues or difficulties, identification and intervention should take place
as early as possible so as to be able to help the child. From this we can see that we test
within the developmental context in order to provide early intervention to help improve
upon a situation and potentially lessen the later developmental impact for the child. For
some testing in this context is essential so as to ensure they get the best possible help
(Foxcroft & Roodt, 2018).
4. Children age 0 – 6 years old. Children are assessed as individuals against a scale or set
of predetermined developmental milestones (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2018).
5. Test materials should be stored in a locked cabinet or safe with only those authorized
to use them having access to the keys for the safe or cabinet (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2018).
6. There are very strict rules as to who can administer and interpret tests. Only qualified
and authorized professionals are allowed to do this. These include Psychologists who
practice in the following fields: Counselling, clinical, industrial, neuro, forensic,
educational and research psychology. Other practitioners include registered counselors
and psychometrists in both independent and supervised practice. Only people who are
qualified to administer and interpret tests should have access to them so yes, they would
have to be properly qualified. In the developmental context the results are not always
communicated to the teste, they may be communicated to a parent or guardian as the
child may be too young to receive and fully understand results (Foxcroft & Roodt,
2018).
Tests should relate to abilities and aptitudes, results can be given to parents and the
child together, but should they be about behavioral or emotional issues then separate
