Activity 1: Specification of content
1.1) A lesson plan is a teacher’s detailed description of a certain subject of
instruction or learning trajectory. A lesson plan entails the lesson of today, the
objective, prior knowledge and class activity. For example, in math under the
topic of 3-D shapes the educator must prepare a daily lesson plan of that topic
before conducting a lesson.
1.2) The key concepts is the learning objective and activities. Once the teacher is
done teaching, he/she must ask the learners questions to see whether they
understand the topic then give out the class activity. The learners are supposed to
know the entire topic on 3-d shapes for example the names of 3-D shapes, size,
length and properties that’s when we know the learning objective has been
achieved.

, 1.3) Topic: common fractions
1.4.1) Common fractions in grade 6 are taught in equivalent forms, recognizing
and using equivalent forms of common fractions with 1 digit or 2-digit
denominator (fractions in which denominator is a multiple of another)
1.4.2) 5 hours
1.4.3) In grade 5 they use the addition and subtraction of common fraction with
the same denominator. Addition and subtraction of mixed numbers but in grade 6
they use addition and subtraction of common fraction in which one denominator
is a multiple of another.
Activity 2: Lesson planning
2.1) The aim of the lesson covers the goal of the lesson. It shows what the teacher
wants the learners to achieve.
2.2) Teacher-centered approach is an approach that encourages learners to focus
on the teacher while learner-centered approach is an approach where both the
educators and the learners share an equal focus.
2.3) I will allow the learners to use visual models to get a better understanding on
fraction. Physical and visual models can help guide learners on the understanding
of fractions. Learners can also watch video clips that delves deeper into
understanding the addition of common fractions with the same denominator. For
example, I will ensure I use concrete items like counters, then draw the as
pictures then once I’m done I move the item onto using rational numbers to
represent them. This way learners will have a broader understanding on addition
of common fraction with the same denominator.
2.4) Yes I agree; I believe that teachers enhance the learner’s knowledge on other
aspects. Education should not only be based in a classroom. Learners learn every
day in their walks of life. Educators just embed their knowledge and skills to
enhance their knowledge and understanding on things.
Prior knowledge helps learners to remember what they already know and
understand about the area of learning, thus helping them build on this previous
learning.
