2. Explain, with an applicable example the steps and educational values of STAD
as a cooperative learning strategy
Student-team achievement divisions, or STAD for short, is a cooperative learning
technique in which students of varying academic levels work together to attain a
common educational objective in smaller groups. After the instructor presents a lesson,
students break up into groups and work together to ensure that every member of their
respective groups has an adequate understanding of the material covered. It is
generally agreed that STAD is one of the cooperative learning methods that is both the
most studied and the simplest and most easy. It was built on the completion of
instructional pedagogy, which led to its establishment.
Students are put into smaller groups or teams to work together. A lesson is given to the
class as a whole, and then the pupils are evaluated on their understanding of the
material. Even though the examinations are done separately, students are strongly
urged to collaborate with one another in order to enhance the group's overall
performance in order to get their grades based on how well the team did. Students are
judged separately based on their contributions to the collaboration that they are
essentially doing, despite the fact that they are working together on the project. For
instance, in my class, I like to put together groups of four to five people who are diverse
in terms of their performance level, gender, and race. After that, each student's current
score is compared to their own historical average, and points are given out depending
on the extent to which a student meets or exceeds their own previous performance. It
instills in the pupils a sense of responsibility not just for themselves but also for the
other individuals in their own groups. Because of this, it is ensured that all members of
the group, regardless of their skill level, are equally driven to perform to the best of their
abilities.
Students participating in STAD are placed in mixed-gender groups consisting of four or
five people. After these tasks have been decided upon, a process consisting of four
steps will begin (1) teaching, (2) team study, (3) testing, and (4) recognition.
