While reading the assessment Scenario I remembered back in 2011 my grand-daughter was
going through the same scenario in 2nd grade. She did not write a note but she threatens to shoot a
little girl and her family verbally. The teacher heard and of course her parent was called to the
principal office, and she was suspended for a few days and just like Donna, the school ordered a
psychological evaluation and risk assessment, she was diagnosis with Attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), however her parent made an appointment with a private
psychologist at the hospital for a second opinion.
Donna at age 14, had her first evaluation also an assessment of her brain functions was
conducted as a precaution to insure the diagnosis was comprehensive. After the psychologist
provided Ms. Kraut with Donna’s initial diagnosis, as well as the new diagnosis the team of
doctors explained the reason for the previous diagnosis and their result of the new analysis, at
that point, Ms. Kraut’s understood why the doctors had to ordered a second evaluation. I myself
understand why they did a reevaluation on Donna, however, in my opinion her mom could have
done a second evaluation with a private doctor as in my granddaughter situation, Ms. Kraut had
the right to do that, and based on the current DSM-IV criteria, “Before each disorder name, ICD-
9-CM code are provided, followed by the new code ICD-10-CM code in parenthesis blank lines
indicated that either the ICD-9-CM or the ICD-10-CM code is not applicable. For some disorder,
the code can be indicated only according to the subtype or specifier.” (Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition, Text Revision). I agree with the reason the doctors
reevaluated Donna. “Psychologists base the opinions contained in their recommendations,
reports and diagnostic or evaluative statements, including forensic testimony, on information and
techniques sufficient to substantiate their findings.” (American Psychological Association 2010.
9.01 (a).
Discuss the ethical responsibilities a psychologist must consider if choosing to use
psychological assessment tools to re-evaluate the client.
When Ms. Kraut denied the change in diagnosis the private psychologist conducted a review
also, to my understanding, the doctors must provide enough information about the research to
ensure the applicability of the results, and that is backed up according to “APA 2010. 9.01 (c).”
“When psychologists conduct a record review or provide consultation or supervision and an
individual examination is not warranted or necessary for the opinion, psychologists explain this
and the sources of information on which they based their conclusions and recommendations
everyone involved conducted themselves with in the ethical responsibility.
