APPARENT APATHY OF
PARENTS WITH THEIR
CHILDREN
I. INTRODUCTION
The intention of this research proposal is to investigate the
apparent apathy of parents with their children. As a teacher, I’ve
noticed that most parents are not involved in their children
education judging from their schoolwork and their participation in
the classroom and school as a whole. Parent involvement in their
children learning process offers many opportunities for success,
improvement on child's morale, attitude, and academic
achievement across all subject’s areas, behaviour, and social
adjustment. Without parents’ involvement in children’s education,
all that I have mentioned above are impossible to happen, of which
is why as a teacher or student teacher, I have decided to do a
research proposal to find out whether parents are involved in their
children education or not as well as to find solutions to this problem.
Majority of the parents do not know the significance of being
involved in child education even assessing their children’s work.

1. PROBLEM STATEMENT
The main problem or the focus is on the apparent apathy of parents with
their children which seem to be a problem nowadays not only to children’s
but also to the teachers in schools as they are the ones that spend too
much time with children’s at school guiding them and teaching them. The
problem lies on the un-involvement of parents on their children’s work
specifically in education. Parent un-involvement is when a parent does not
participate in education affairs which involves their children. Therefore,
when parents do not play vital roles of being parents and home guider or
home teacher to their child for the purpose of improving learning
conditions of the child it worsens the participation of a child in school
activities. Parents should participate with educators in the interests of the
education of their children’s. Parents un-involvement is caused by the lack
of time, lack of childcare, lack of transportation to attend meetings at
school and the finally, embarrassment, the parent may be illiterate or
unable to speak English. This could make communication difficult if not
impossible. This problem should be researched in order to find out the
reasons why parents are not involved in their children education, that way
maybe there could be more reasons or causes that I did not mention
above and find solutions that will make them involved
