What is daphnia magna?
In this literature search we going to explain what daphnia is, what factors could
have an effect on daphnia heart rate. Daphnia are known as planktonic
crustaceans that belong to the Phyllopoda family or also it can be known as
Branchiopoda. A characteristic that can be used to know daphnia is that they
have flattened leaf-like legs that are used to create water current for the
filtering system. Daphnia length is around 0.2-6.0mm, this species is usually
found in freshwater such as in lakes, rivers and temporary pools. A female’s life
cycle will begin when she lays a clutch of eggs approximately around 6 to 10 in
her brood chamber that is located under her carapace, the water fleas can
reproduce both asexually and sexually and they have a cyclic parthenogenetic
life cycle and heterogonic reproduction. This species is found in an
environment that is very abundant when present in habitat. They use their
antennae to push themselves through the water in fast, upward, jumping-like
motions, and they engage in diel vertical migration and so they travel to higher
levels of water at night to eat and then will return back to lower levels of water
during the day and therefore they can avoid predators. Algae, bacteria and
debris in the water are consumed by these water fleas. They are important
because they needed as prey for fishes and invertebrates in aquatic food

Why is daphnia important?
Daphnia or also known as water fleas, are microscopic crustaceans that live in
fresh water such as ponds, lakes and streams. Daphnia is important because
they needed as prey for fishes and other aquatic organisms. Water fleas are
ideal organisms for bioassays because they are sensitive to changes in water
chemistry and are easy to inexpensive to raise in an aquarium, it takes them a
few days to mature so it does not take long for growing a culture of test
organisms. Daphnia is known to be transparent therefore a microscope is used
