Activity 1 - Before you volunteer, think about other
possibilities.
What would your project be?
My project would be counselling women and girls that have been sexually,
physically, verbally and mentaly abused.
What does the project entail?
The organisation would be a facility offering counselling and emotional
support to help the women and girls overcome and deal with the trauma
they have been through. The organisation would also help women find
shelters, homes and safe houses so they will have the opportunity to leave
their abusers. It would also help the women find suitable jobs so they are
reliant on their abusers. The organisation will also help place young girls
with new families or help them reach family members that will look after
them correctly.
What are the resources you would need to get this project started?
I have identified the resources that I would need to get this project started
and to turn it into a successful NPO organisation. The first resource would
be an interest and passion about helping abused women and girls. This
cause would need to be something close to my heart, that I am passionate
about, It must be something that I am willing to spend my time and money
on. The second resource would be financial. I would need to use as little
money as possible. Initiatives such as fundraising and asking for donations
and financial support, could help with gaining the money and funds to start
the organisation and aid in keeping the organisation open and running
efficiently, helping women and girls. The third resource would be time. I

would have to be honest and realistic with myself about how much time I
would be able to give and how much time is needed in order for this
organization to run efficiently and for it to be a success.
The fourth resource would be networking. Making connections with people
from all walks of life, such as connections with volunteering counsellors,
this counsellors world be there to help counsel and help the women and
girls work through their trauma. Making connections with safe houses,
foster homes and shelters that would be able to help the women and girls
with providing them with safe places to stay and recover from the abuse
they have had to endure. Making connections with the law enforcement
officers and the correct authorities, this will help by explaining the situations
that are happening or that might happen, as some abusers are violent and
may come looking for the women or girls.
