1905 : Allan is born

1925 : Gustavsson is blown up (by Allan) and Allan is sent to the asylum in Uppsala

1929 : Allan is rehabilitated and goes back to Yxhult, where he blows up his home

1929-39 : Allan meets Estéban and they travel to Spain where they fight in the civil war

1939 : Allan saves General Franco’s life and they become friends

1939-43 : Allan is imprisoned upon arrival in the USA, he spends this time incarcerated

1943 : Allan flies for the first time, he is heading to Los Alamos, NM

1943-45 : Scientists of the Manhattan Project struggle to find a solution to the atom bomb

1945 : Allan provides the solution the scientists were looking for, he meets vice president
Harry Truman, Truman then sends him to China to fight communism

1945-47 : Allan escapes the river boat and saves Jiang Qing, he then decides it’s time to go
home and he crosses the Himalayas on foot

1947 : Allan arrives in Iran, where he is arrested. Allan meets Reverend Ferguson. He then
returns to Sweden via a flight accompanied by Churchill, later that year. Allan meets with
PM Erlander who refers him to Dr. Eklund. Eklund doesn’t think Allan is competent.

1948 : Allan is taken to Moscow by Yury. Allan has a fall out with Stalin which leads to Allan’s
sentence to the gulag. Allan meets Herbert on the train heading to Vladivostok

1948-53 : Allan and Herbert are in the gulag

1953 : Allan and Herbert escape. They steal Marshal Meretskov’s motor and identity. They
make their way to Pyongyang where the eventually get the chance to meet Supreme
Leader Kim Il Sung, Song knows Meretskov and Allan and Herbert are in trouble. Mao is
there although and they are saved, they then travel to Bali

1953-68 : Allan and Herbert enjoy life in Bali, they meet Ni Wayan Laksmi (Amanda)

,1968 : Allan, Amanda and Herbert go to France. Allan meets both Lyndon Johnson and
Charles de Gaulle. Allan is then recruited to join the CIA

1969 : Allan reunites with Yury and Yury agrees to become a spy for the USA

1969-82 : Allan and Yury sent information to the USA, while the USSR is slowly collapsing

1982 : Brezhnev (president of USSR) dies. Allan goes back to Sweden, where he is now a
pensioner and Yury and Larissa move to New York

1983 : Yury dies at the end of ‘83 and Larissa dies the following year. It had been their best
year together and they watched endless operas at the Metropolitan

1983-89 : Allan lives alone, close to where he grew up

1989 : Allan finds a cat on his doorstep and adopts him

1989-2005 : Allan and Molotov live happily

2005 : Molotov dies, out of rage Allan blows up his home by accident, Allan is then sent to
the old age home. He is unhappy there and decides to step out of the window of his room

‘Present’ storyline takes place in 2005 and starts at the end of the ‘past’ storyline:

May 2nd : Allan steps out of the window, steals the suitcase and meets Julius

May 3rd : Allan and Julius discover they had murdered Bolt. They meet Benny in Åker and
flee to Småland where they meet Gunilla and spend the night at Lake Farm.

May 4th : Gunilla sees the paper and confronts Allan and friends about it. She is calmed
down when she hears of the money

May 4th - 9th : The friends hide from Chief Inspector Aaronsson and the Never Again gang
at Lake Farm

May 9th : Bucket dies when he is sat on by Sonya. The Boss gets in a serious motor vehicle
accident with Allan & co.’s bus. The friends flee to Bellringer Farm, where Bosse lives. Benny
and Bosse reconcile

May 10th : Benny and Julius discover there are arrest warrants out for Allan and friends
and that the public thinks Pike (The Boss) is dead

May 10th - 25th : The friends stay at Bellringer Farm and they get to know each other better

May 25th : Aaronsson receives a tip that they are hiding on Bellringer Farms

May 26th : Upon his arrival, Aaronsson is informed that victims, Bolt and Bucket, weren’t
killed by Allan and friends. Prosecutor Ranelid informs the press that he will give them a
story the following day and he makes a plan to meet with Allan & co.

May 27th : Ranelid is told a false story by the friends (which Aaronsson is now part of),
Ranelid the proceeds to give the media the story he has been told

,May 27th - June 8th : The friends make plans to travel to Indonesia and eventually it
happens. Allan reunites with Amanda. Benny and The Beauty as well as Allan and Amanda
get married

Chapter Summaries:

1. (Present) It is Allan's 100th birthday. He steps out of the window before his party
2. (Present) Allan arrives at Malmköping bus station and a man asks him to watch his
suitcase. When Allan’s bus arrives, he leaves with the suitcase
3. (Present) Allan arrives at Byringe station (as far as his money got him) , here he
meets Julius. They become friends and they lock up Bolt in the freezer later that
evening
4. (Past) Allan is born. His father dies in Russia and his mother dies when he is in his
teens. Allan’s mother’s saying is : “It is what it is, and whatever will be, will be /
Things are what they are and whatever will be, will be.” Allan starts the Karlsson
Dynamite Company. He blows up Gustavsson and is sent to an asylum in Uppsala
thereafter. There he is sterilised and held captive for 4 years
5. (Present) Chief Inspector Aaronsson is introduced. He is looking for Allan and asking
for tips. He is led to Byringe station by a woman who was on the bus with Allan
6. (Present) Julius and Allan discover money in the suitcase. Bolt is dead in the freezer.
They travel to Åker by inspection trolley, the following day. Aaronsson is hot on their
heels. They dump Bolt’s body in a crate heading to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They meet
Benny in the town and the 3 of them travel south where they meet The Beauty on
Lake Farm, close to Växjö and Rottne in Småland
7. (Past) Allan returns to Yxhult after being released from Uppsala. He blows up his
house, but the police are unable to hand him over to the asylum, since he is already
rehabilitated. Allan cycles northward to Hälleforsnäs, where he spontaneously
decides to stop and start working as an ignition specialist at an explosives factory.
He meets Estéban, who was banned from Spain. When Miguel Primo de Riveira flees
Spain, hee decides to return to fight in the civil war. Allan joins, since he has never
been out of the country and that he might see a black man. Estéban is blown up by
a mortar and Allan continues to work for the republicans (left) by blowing up

, bridges. He one day saves the life of General Franco and he is now friends with the
(right-wing) leader. Allan and Franco enjoy dinner and drinks and Allan is given a
letter of the generalissimo's unconditional protection
8. (Present) The friends are at Lake Farm. Meanwhile, the dog Kicki tells Aaronsson that
there had been a corpse on the inspection trolley. Allan, Benny and Gunilla steal
medication from the Rottne clinic (The Beauty’s former employer) later that evening.
They are seen by Bucket’s brother (leader of the Violence/ Violons). The following
day Gunilla is misinformed about her 3 visitors by a news report. She is persuaded
by money to let them stay after she asks them to leave.
9. (Past) Allan arrives in the USA from Spain, here he is imprisoned because of his
connection to Franco. After 4 years, Allan is sent to assist with the development of
the atom bomb in Los Alamos. Allan works as a waiter for the scientists. One day he
blurts out the solution to their final problem. He is then invited to dinner with vice
president Harry Truman, they dine and drink together until Truman is informed that
President Franklin D. Roosevelt has died
10. (Present) Bucket is instructed to watch out for Allan or Bolt or The Beauty, when he
sees Gunilla at the supermarket, he follows her to Lake Farm after calling Pike to let
him know, Bucket is although killed when Sonya sits on him at Lake Farm
11. (Past) Allan is sent to China by Truman to fulfil Roosevelt’s promises to aid in the
battle against communism. Allan is assigned as explosives expert for the
Kuomintang, led by Chiang Kai-Shek, husband of Soong May-Ling. Mao Tse-Tung’s
wife, Jiang Qing, is held captive on the riverboat that Allan is on. She is abused and
tortured by the Kuomintang soldiers. Allan and the chef, Ah Ming, decide to escape
and set Jiang Qing free. He then starts his journey back home, after they stayed in a
Tibetan village for a short period. Allan crosses the Himalayas by foot and meets
Iranian Communists along the way. Upon arrival, the communists are killed for
possession of communist literature, while Allan is imprisoned
12. (Present) Bucket’s Mustang (with Bucket under the backseat) is stolen from Benny
and Julius, luckily it eventually gets sent to Latvia before Bucket is discovered. The
Boss is heading towards Lake Farm while Aaronsson is chasing him. The friends flee
from Lake Farm in a yellow Scania bus (for Sonya). Eventually The Boss’s BMW
collides with the bus, nearly killing him. They remove Pike from the vehicle and they
head to Benny’s brother, Bosse’s farm. Aaronsson sees the car wreck
