3.1: Controlling overweight positively.
Mr Kani, the chairperson tabled the matter of controlling overweight positively for
students and lecturers at Olandi university. He then asked Mr Kay, the Head of the
, Department of Sports and Recreation at the university, who had conducted research
on controlling overweight problems positively to share his findings.
It was reported that overweight issues affected everyone and some people were
genetically predisposed to obesity. Furthermore, it was reported that many men
aspired to lose weight. Crash diets were reported to be ineffective because people
gained weight soon after losing them. It was reported that Some women can become
so desperate to lose weight that their whole self-image gets distorted, and they are
affected by eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
Ms. Lado stated that he had been in consultation with students and the was a general
agreement that students needed a program to help them keep fit. Furthermore, she
emphasized that being overweight was problematic for students and had a negative
impact on their mental health and social life.
Mr Kay reported that the resolution taken with the university board was that there was
a need for a fitness centre on campus and a full-time physician should be appointed
as part of the programme. Students and lecturers would make appointments with the
physician to get advice on how to lose weight and discuss their diets. Furthermore, it
was recommended participants should be required to provide medical certificates from
doctors stating that it was safe for them to engage in a fitness programme. Mr Kay
mentioned that in the future it would be better if the doctor checked clients’ health on
the premises.
Ms. Lado inquired in the event that the estimating of the program would be
reasonable to understudies. Mr. Kay expressed that the college planning to engage
with a few therapeutic help to talk about conceivable outcomes of therapeutic helps
