Assignment 1

, Question 1
1.1 Indigenous knowledge is now a popular language around the world. It has been
interpreted differently in different places in but is generally understood to mean the
traditional knowledge previously brought by the local or indigenous through oral
traditions. Indigenous Knowledge [IK] is broadly the knowledge used by indigenous
people to make a living in a particular environment.
b) Indigenous Knowledge Systems [IKS] contain knowledge developed in indigenous
societies prior to the emergence of modern scientific knowledge systems.
c) Traditional knowledge means that people living in rural areas are isolated from the
rest of the world and their knowledge system is static and does not interact with
other knowledge systems.
d) Traditional ecological knowledge [tek] is indigenous or regional knowledge, the body
of nature-constructed knowledge or natural history that has deepened the
understanding of the ecosystem in which lived through trial and error. TEK includes a
system of classifications, a series of empirical observations of the local ecology, and a
self-government system that manages the use of resources such as hunting and
capture.
e) Traditional environmental knowledge can generally be defined as a body of
knowledge accumulated over generations by a group of people who are in close
contact with nature.
Question 2
Indigenous knowledge is important because it provides problem-solving strategies to
the local community, especially the poor. Indigenous knowledge constitutes an
important part of global knowledge on development issues and is a resource that is
underutilized in the development process. Understanding the knowledge of
Indigenous peoples can enhance customer service, so learning from the knowledge
of indigenous peoples can deepen the understanding of the local situation by
adapting international practice to local circumstances, we can improve the impact
and sustainability of our work. Investing in the dissemination of Indigenous
knowledge can reduce poverty and sharing indigenous knowledge within and
between communities can enhance cross-cultural understanding.
Example: Diverse production system: No single resource overfishing.
Risk is often distributed using multiple survival strategies.
Flexibility: IK can adapt to new conditions and incorporate external knowledge.
