A private-based company called BrightFuture has opened a new rehabilitation centre in Cape
Town. They specialize in trauma recovery, eating disorders and addiction recovery. The
company is well known for having the best facilities and pride itself for the best therapist and
programs. It has been known that some well-known people have booked into their centres.
The company is looking for new staff members of nurses, counsellors, wellness specialists and
clinical psychologist to provide around-the-clock services with four different staff teams. The
person appointed will work closely with each client to build strong relationships and provide a
strong foundation of support. Therefore the person needs to have a strong sense of self and a
value for life. They should be able to find meaning in what they do and build a relationship
without discriminating or be judgemental towards clients.
It is important to be able to work within a team environment as the staff will be divided into
four working shifts. It is important to understand that each one plays a role in the recovery.
You should be able to trust your team and provide support for each other but still maintain your
independence to prevent co-dependence on staff members. It is important to separate personal
and work life and keep an upbeat spirit.
Position requires long hours that can be taxing with on-call duties but the employees are well
looked after with a lot of benefits.
Maslow’s theory of self-actualisation
Self-actualisation is the fulfilment of the basic needs and the highest level from the hierarchy
of needs, the basic needs are required to be satisfied to attain the level of self-actualisation.
Self-actualisation is the ideal level of functioning and based on humanism. Humanism being
that humans have worth and dignity and consciously strive to actualisation of their potential
(p.347).
When these needs are satisfied regularly, even with the exception that some of these needs are
partially satisfied, the individual can move on to the self-actualisation level. At the level of
