divide refers to divide between people having access as well as the knowledge
with internet opposed to those individuals who do not have access nor the
competency to use the internet.

Below is the list of Gaps I would like to address in the context of my
country

Poverty/affordability

economic growth, more than any other continents. Government must work with
Telecommunication Company to make data more affordable or offer free Wi-Fi.
If people are able to access information via internet for free it will help
narrow the digital divide. Poverty is the number one factor that narrows
digital divide as Food, shelter and clothes are the most essential needs for
one to survive

Gender Gap

though we phrased things differently we still have the same ideas. In South
Africa, gender is not a problem because females and females both have access
to internet. In some countries, females have limited or less access to
internet than males, whereas in South Africa whoever wants to access the
internet is allowed to.

Age Gap

The elderly cannot function well using these ICTs, the younger people are
using more ICTs.Young people are fascinated by what is happening around them
hence they always want to be kept up to date on what is happening in other
places or countries, who is doing what and where, making them feel more
comfortable with the new technology. They are able to benefit from it more
than older people. Older people are less likely to have a computer and are
less likely to be interested in using the Internet, they even think that
technology is harmful.

Content Gap

A large percentage of information content on the Internet is in English,
which makes it difficult for people whose primary language is not English.
Some people are unable to read (illiterate) hence they are unable to
understand, so it causes digital divide. One of the reasons why some people
do not use internet technologies because the content is not relevant and
interesting to them.

Accessibility Gap

One way that we can try to tackle this divide is by making Wi-Fi free and
available to all South African people. Low-income areas/ rural areas should
also be provided with free or affordable internet access. Public areas such

Barriers to access can include lack of awareness of available technologies

, and of what can be achieved through their use, a lack of available training
in their adaptive use, and a lack of financial resources to purchase the
ICTs.
