Executive Summary
The survey indicates that due to the integration of markets and production in recent
years, globalisation has intensified. This is a result of rising demand as populations
on various continents change. Several factors, however, play a role in whether a
company succeeds or fails when conducting business abroad given the current
external environment. The economic environment, social stratifications, and internal
factors and institutions are all instances of firm resources. The study acknowledges
the importance of resource-based and industrial-based perspectives, two other well-
known perspectives in international business, even though the institution-based
perspective places emphasis on formal and informal institutions. The legal system,
the economic system, the political system, and various cultural elements like
language, religion, and education were all assessed as part of the inter-institutional
framework within the context. In this report, MTN South Africa will be the primary
subject, and it will be examined how MTN South Africa used both formal and
informal institutions to advance its goal of becoming the top telecommunication
company in the Nigerian economy. In the findings, the report found out that, formal
institutions such as the legal system; economic setup contributed positively towards
the success of MTN in Nigeria. However, informal institutions were a major barrier as
they created threats on the short- and long-term objectives of MTN.
Literature review/ search
The literature has been the most significant component of the research because it
provides the researcher with the opportunity to learn crucial information from various
authors. This academic report was put together using a variety of sources, including
journals, articles, previous research, and a required textbook. However, these
journals were all grouped by the period they covered, which was from 2017 to 2022.
In other words, because it enables the author to read online articles and journals,
Google Scholar was the most significant search engine used in the compilation of
this report. Only 12 of the 19 publications` abstracts (journals and textbook sections)
that were looked into were really helpful because they were pertinent to the
industry's field and the geographic locations of the home and host countries. The
following table represents major sources that this report utilised:
