1950s – 1980s: uitbreiding en formaliseren
2000s: verdere uitbreiding met focus op nationale dimensie van migratie en diversiteit
Kritische reflectie
Ethnic lensing: de neiging om alles in verband te brengen met etniciteit → problematisch
Risico dat de sociale complexiteit en het belang van kruisverbanden tussen etniciteit
en bijvoorbeeld klasse/locatie/educatie worden genegeerd → de-migrantisatie
