the Cape. Give reasons as to why this decision was made?

To provide a place for ships to restock supplies: The Cape was located at a strategic point on the trade
route between Europe and the East Indies. Ships travelling this route needed to restock supplies such as
fresh water, meat, vegetables, and fruit to prevent scurvy, which was a major problem for sailors on long
voyages. The VOC saw the Cape as an ideal location for a refreshment station, where ships could
restock and continue on their journey.
