ASSIGNMENT 3
SUS1501
Student No:
Child Labor
1. Which is the most likely utilitarian option in the multiple choice
question above?
- The most likely utilitarian option is C.” This is just a fact of global supply
chains and necessary for global economic growth, which is in everyone’s best
interest”. Since utilitarianism state that action is judged as good if that act
maximize the total amount of good in a system.

2. Why do you say this? Please state your premises for concluding
this explicitly as we taught you in the section A DARN GOOD
ARGUMENT.

- It is well known that the Democratic Republic of Congo is in the richest
continent in the world in terms of mineral resources which is Africa, yet
there's a high rate of poverty in most of the countries across Africa. Millions
of Congolese live in extreme poverty and most kids are born in a country
which is already weakened by conflict and a high levels of corruption and also
plenty of kids don't have parents to depend on financially or for needs.
- Thus as much as most kids are born in families with a dire poverty and no
one to depend to due to the low life expectancy in the country because
violent ethnic conflict and wars around the country. Most kids are forced to
become independent and go look for work therefore since it is well known
that DRC Congo produce 70% of the world Cobalt and it’s also in high
demand around the world, due to the high level of corruption and improper
human rights practise, most poor kids tend to engage in illegal mining of
cobalt in order to be able get funds and support their families and
themselves.
In conclusion most of the kids are able to support themselves by mining and
selling the cobalt to the small companies in the country which the legally
registered companies export the cobalt to high cooperates around the world
which maximize a certain thresh hold in the country economic growth.

3. What do you feel about this option?
- I feel it is morally wrong to have kids who have to go through such situation,
although the option indicate that there's hedonism; in this child labor
situation where kids who should be at school and in better conditions have to
do painful labor just so they can get cash to buy food and other needs.
4. Which option did you chose?
- I chose option E. It really does breaks my heart to see people being
exploited especially. It is morally wrong and not acceptable.
