Assignment: 07

Part A
My predicted ecological footprint was extremely large, requiring around 3.5 earths if everyone lived
as I do. It was startling to learn how large my ecological footprint is, and it made me more aware of
my impact on the ecosystem. We have become accustomed to prioritizing what is convenient at the
time over what is sustainable, particularly in South Africa. After measuring my ecological footprint, I
have noticed that I should be significantly more ecologically sensitive in my decision-making and
take responsibility for it rather than delegating it to others.

Part B
My carbon footprint implies that I am harming the environment more than benefiting it. I can't claim
these qualities because my results show that I'm not a long-term participant. Self-sufficiency will
take some time for me to achieve. I need to be self-contained. It is vital that we preserve the
resources we have, regardless of their sentimental or practical significance. We must consider future
generations.

Part C
Ecological Footprint
Deontology – Do the right thing.
Deontology argues that “so long as you do what is right – so long as you act in the right way –
whatever the outcome is, it will be good. The issue is how many of us are willing to give up some of
our unsustainable habits for the greater welfare of all. Adjusting the way, I live to sustainability is
quite difficult. It's difficult to adjust one's lifestyle to do what is right for everyone. In this light, my
large ecological footprint does not act in the right way. If everyone on the earth lived like I do, my
ecological footprint would be unsustainable and would have disastrous effects in the long run.
