RECTIFICATION OF ERRORS
Rectify the following errors whlch were detected before closing Arun's books of account.
1. Carriage paid on purchase of machinery Rs. 5,600 was recorded through nominal account.
2. Purchase of goods on credit Rs. 16,000 from Vijay appeared correctly in purchase book, but while posting
Vinay's accaynt was credited by Rs. 1600.
3 While posting returninward book, a return of RS. 4563 from Navin was debited by Rs.6534.
4 Sales book was added short by Rs. 7920.
5 The total of discount column on receipt side Rs. 825 was not posted.
6 Goods costing Rs. 7500 were lost by fire and insurance co. admitted a claim of 65%. This was recorded
with interchanged figures of loss and claim.
7. Old machinery representing cost Rs. 28000 and book value Rs. 5680 was sold for cash Rs. 6750 to
Rajesh. This was recorded in sales book.
8. The amount withdrawn from bank account of the business Rs. 7000 for owner's personal use, was a
shown as withdrawal for office use in the cash book
9 Wages paid to Sudhir Rs. 2400 was recorded through personal account.
10. The loss of fully insured goods for sales value Rs. 13000, was recorded as loss of uninsured goods.
S.P= 130% of cost.
11. An outward invoice of Rs. 26000 issued to Ajay was omitted from sales book.
12. Old furniture of cost Rs. 10000 and depreciation already written off on it Rs. 8950 was sold on credit at a
loss of Rs. 450to Tanuj. This was recorded in sales book.
13. Brokerage paid on purchase of shares Rs. 750 was debited to brokerage account
14. Refreshment expenses column of petty cash book was added short by Rs. 496.
15. Purchase of goods Rs. 17100 (net) from Manish at trade discount 10% was recorded taking the amount as
gross.
16. Acheque of Rs. 7800 was issued to Manoj in full setlement of Rs. 8126. This was recorded with
interchanged figures of bank and discount.
17. Goods costing Rs. 5000 and sale value Rs. 3500were distributed among the poor. This was recorded at
lower of the two amounts.
18. The goods of sale value Rs. 36000 were lost by the theft and insurance company did not admit a claim of
60% this was recorded with interchanged figures of loss and claim taking sale value as cost.

19. An issue of a bearer cheque of Rs. 2130 for salary was recorded in cash column.
20. Apayment of Rs. 8600to Dinesh by cheque and Rs. 1430 in cash was made in full settlement of Rs.
10253. The receipt side showed an amount of cheque in discount column,an amount of cash in bank
column and an amount of discount in cash column.
21. Apayment of Rs. 5790by Arun to Arvind was shown as payment by Arvind.
22. Adebit note of Rs. 690 was received from bank for bank charges,this was shown on debit side cash book.
However while posting, bank charges account was correctly debited.
23. Rent from tenant Rs. 2300 was recorded as rent to landlord.
24. Sales book was Overcast by Rs. 1890.
25. Areturn of goods Rs. 3500 (gross) to Sanjay was entered in return outward book at gross amount. Trade
discount was 15%.
26. Purchase return book was undercast by Rs. 800
27. One of our debtor could pay Rs. 6400being 80 paise in a rupee as first and final dividend on his
insolvency. Only the actual payment appeared in cash book.
28. Purchase return book's total Rs. 11890 was not posted.
29. Apayment of Rs. 23897 to Sunil in full settlement of Rs. 24097 was not posted from cash book
30. Purchase of computers for office use Rs. 18000 by cheque and carriage thereon paid in cash Rs. 150 was
posted twice.
31. ACredit purchase of goOds Rs. 15800from Anil was posted twice; once of debit side Anil account at Rs.
1580 and for the second time on credit side of Salil account at Rs. 8500.
32. Return inward book was added short by Rs. 630.
33. Purchase of stationery Rs. 6200 for cash recorded in purchase book.
34. An old machinery having book value Rs. 5000 was sold at aprofit of Rs. 1500/- to Mr. Ra One, This was
recorded in the sales book.
35. Furniture costing Rs. 10,000 having depreciated by Rs. 2,500/- was sold at a loss of Rs. 700 to Mr. Don.
This was recorded through the sales book.
36. Cash Coloum on the receipt side of cash book was cast short by Rs. 250/
37. Bank Coloum on the payment side of cash book was under cast by Rs. 850/
