This report aims to identify and evaluate the determinants of success or failure for
multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in the African context, with a focus on the
management of the MNE under review. The historical path of the MNE and key
decisions made by its leaders in becoming an MNE are considered, as well as the
motivation for expanding operations into Africa and the product markets served by
the MNE.
The success or failure of MNEs operating in Africa is determined by several factors,
including political, legal, economic, and social conditions (UNCTAD, 2021). Cultural
sensitivity, effective market entry strategies, and managing stakeholder relationships
are also key factors that impact the success or failure of MNEs in Africa (Verbeke,
2013).
Based on these factors, the report draws conclusions regarding the determinants of
success or failure for MNEs operating in Africa. To achieve success, MNEs
operating in Africa should take a strategic and proactive approach, leveraging
partnerships, investing in local talent, and engaging with stakeholders (Grant &
Jordan, 2015).
In conclusion, the report recommends that MNEs operating in Africa should focus on
managing risks and challenges associated with the African context, using sound
theoretical, contextual, and criterion-based analysis (Dunning, 1993). The
recommendations aim to help the MNE under review achieve its objectives in the
African context, including increasing market share in Africa, expanding its product
offerings, and leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency.
