, Assignment 02 (100 marks)
QUESTION 1
1.1 Try and remember your experience as a learner in primary school and in
secondary school. Write down pleasant and unpleasant experiences of being
in …
1.1.1 a science class. (5)
My experience in a science class.
When I was in primary school, I was struggling a lot with science. There were many
reasons for this such as lack of interest in in the subject, not understanding a lot of
the sub-topics. Depending solely on school for learning, rather than using alternative
methods alongside learning in school. Depending on the curriculum books for
learning and not doing research outside of classroom. Not asking questions because
of the fear that other learners will laugh at me should I be irrelevant. Not being well-
prepared for the lessons. All the reasons mentioned above made me dislike this
subject. I used to feel like my grade 7 science teacher does not like me because I
was new in the school and I didn’t really understand the language she used to
explain the concept in, she used Setswana to communicate so I would literally feel
bored whenever the teacher was teaching. Though there were few topics that I
understood, I never really enjoyed the subject.
1.1.2 a technology class. (5)
My experience in technology class was amazing, I used to enjoy the lessons.
Technology class really added great value to my ICT life. It made me understand the
impact of technology in our daily life. Technology lessons made me learn l how
machines operate and how/when we get to apply their uses in our everyday lives.
For example, we would be taught about how gears and pulleys function a practical
example would be drawn for a better understanding using bicycle. Technology
taught me about innovation and showed me the importance of using ICT tools such
as computers and how they make our lives better. it was such an amazing subject
that everything around it evolved or was about the things that we know. The projects
that we used to make were enjoyable though they were challenging, but it was such
an amazing subject that requires one to be innovative and always think out of the
box.
1.2 Do you think this has changed since you studied Science and Technology
at school? Explain. (5)
No,
• Science and Technology itself won’t change, but merely adopt to the recent
times. It will always be subjects that ignite the spark of curiosity in learners
