, Question 1
1.1 Justify with 5 (five) valid reasons why you think students should disclose their
disabilities in institutions of higher learning. (10)
There are several misunderstandings about impairments. Some people, for example, believe that
all impairments are visible, which is completely false. A disability denotes that a person has a
mental or physical impairment that limits their capacity to participate in daily activities. Never base
your decisions on internalized preconceptions or misunderstandings.

Misconceptions and stereotypes about people with disabilities can be addressed via disability
awareness. When these are removed, attitudes and actions change for the better. Awareness
creates empathy; so, when you try to understand one another, it will stop that stereotyping mindset
and create an inclusive and safe environment. By self-educating, you can find ways to create
change and spread the word to others.

When a student discloses a handicap to a university, they have access to resources that will
enable them to confidently finish their studies. Many institutions of higher learning have dedicated
services and teams who work with students to find suitable academic and physical
accommodations.

The institution can make academic modifications that range from digital accessibility tools (such as
an audio recorder to capture lectures) to a personalized student support worker or sign language
interpreter, or even alterations to tests (such as more time, a different location, or a different
coursework-to-exam ratio).

Physical modifications include ensuring that all lessons and lectures are held in accessible
premises and that students are provided with adapted accommodations.

1.2 Explain any three (3) types of non-verbal communication that you have learnt and show
how you can use them in your classroom to maintain discipline. (15)
1) Eye Gaze

The eyes play a role in nonverbal communication, with such things as looking, staring, and blinking
being important cues. For example, when you encounter people or things that you like, your rate of
blinking increases and your pupils dilate.

Teacher can use his eyes in class to indicate a range of emotions, including hostility, interest, and
attraction. People also often utilize eye gaze cues to gauge a person's honesty. Normal, steady
eye contact is often taken as a sign that a person is telling the truth and is trustworthy. Shifty eyes
and an inability to maintain eye contact, on the other hand, is frequently seen as an indicator that
someone is lying or being deceptive.
