QUESTION 1
The teacher roles and responsibilities: Inclusive classroom
1. As a Mathematics teacher, list and explain the intervention strategies you would apply
in your teaching in assisting a child who is like Peter and why do you think your
strategies will be effective? Substantiate your response by giving examples (16)

 Assistance dissecting math problems
ADHD students usually have more trouble reading through a math problem and
determining what they need to solve. They may find it difficult to focus on the important
information in the problem. As a teacher I would read the problems aloud with the
children in order to help them to be focused. If a problem is written on the board, I would
also ensure that students also have a copy in front of them. I would tell them to point out
important words and tell them to underline or highlight these terms. If students seem to
be confused about what is being asked in the problem, I would explain to them using
different method of teaching. I would use plenty of guiding questions to make sure they
understand.
 Differentiate instruction
Students with ADHD often need different teaching techniques to be successful.
Differentiating instruction can help to meet the needs of all students. For instance, I can
provide Peter with additional practice problems or customize assignments to match the
current skill level. Differentiated learning is very important in meeting the individual
learning needs of students with ADHD condition. Teacher can alter their instruction to
match the student’s learning style, pace and capacity level. This tactic can assist
students to stay engaged in their learning, feel more confident in their abilities and make
progression. In order for the teacher to make this progress, she can use a variety of
teaching methods, such as visuals aids, manipulatives and technology to present
information in different ways. This will allow students to choose what works best for
them. I trust that these intervention strategies will be effective reason being, they
address specific needs of students with ADHD, including their difficulty with paying
attention, and following instructions. By providing a supportive and structured learning
environment, students like Peter can be successful in their academic work.
 Manipulative, visuals and role playing
As teachers we usually know that students with ADHD condition often become restless
and distracted. As a math teacher I would provide students with opportunities to work
with their hands or bodies. Using manipulatives include objects like colored counters,
geometric shaped, playing money, connecting cubed and so on.
 Incorporate breaks into the lesson
It is crucial to recognize that students with ADHD have difficulty in focusing for longer
period of time. Including breaks into the lesson can assist to keep them engaged and
attentive. For example Peter can be given a break every 15-20 minutes of learning.
Taking breaks will help in maintaining focus and preventing fatigue in students with
ADHD. It allows students to refresh their minds and bodies.
 Providing clear and short instructions
Students with ADHD often struggles with following the instructions. Giving clear and
short instructions can help to reduce confusion and increase their understanding. For
