VERBATIM CASE WORK PROCESS REPORT
CASEWORK FILE SUMMARY

1. Name of organisation: Shield
2. Name of the client: Kate Bishop
3. Identifying data for the
client/family Age: 28
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
Religion: Christianity
4. Home language of the client: English
5. The presenting problem: Kate Bishop was referred to the social worker by a
local domestic violence shelter. She reported experiencing ongoing physical,
emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of her intimate partner. Kate expressed
fear for her safety and the safety of her two children. She recently managed to
leave the abusive relationship and sought assistance to rebuild her life and find
support.
6. Historical development of the organisation’s involvement: During the initial
assessment, the social worker conducted a comprehensive assessment to
evaluate the extent of the abuse, Kate's safety concerns, and the impact on her
mental and emotional well-being. The assessment revealed a pattern of
escalating violence, isolation from support networks, and significant trauma
symptoms.
7. My understanding of the client: Kate Bishop is 32 years old woman employed
for the past year as a secretary, earning about R60, 000 a year. She has been
married to Peter Bishop for 7 years. They have two children, Thomas, aged 6,
and Megan, aged 3. Peter is an insurance agent who earns approximately R140,
000 a year. Peter and the 2 children are all S.A. citizens. Kate, who was born in
Jamaica, is a permanent resident of South Africa. Peter's family is also from
Jamaica, but he was born in the City. Since the domestic violence incident and
subsequent return to South Africa, Mr. Bishop has been living in an apartment he
co-owns with his mother in Johannesburg.
There was no prior contact with this family, but a search of Domestic Incident
Reports at the Police department revealed two prior domestic violence incidents
in which Mr. Bishop was named as the suspect in 12/2021 and 10/2022.

8. Other professionals involved: There has not been any other professional
involved.
