P1 Explain how work experience can support the development of own professional skills
and personal attributes for work in the health and social care sector.

Work experience provides so many opportunities for an individual to develop their
professional and personal attributes to work in the health and social care sector. These
professional skills that it provides cannot be learned in school. During work experience,
the individual will have to comply with the standards set by the workplace and by the
regulatory bodies.

That includes being punctual, dressing appropriately, completing a task to a high
standard, finishing those tasks on
time, acting responsibly, being prepared for meetings, treating others with respect, and
regular attendance which are all examples of professional skills the individual needs to
have.
All these skills I have would be further developed during my work placement.

Knowing that I am a punctual person is an important skill to have during my work
placement. This gives a good impression to my employer on my behavior and would be
good on my feedback. Having positive feedback would be a good look for my
employment in any health and social care sector.

Dressing appropriately is a common skill in every workplace and it gives a good
impression to my colleagues and employer. This is something I know how to do. Work
experience would help to enforce that idea strongly so I am practicing it religiously for
my future career in the health and social care sector.

Completing my task to a high standard is a skill I have as I am a very dedicated and
hardworking individual so completing tasks given to me to a high standard has never
been a problem for me. So this skill is important because it gives a good impression to
my employer and is good feedback to have. I would thereby gain positive recognition.
And this skill will be enforced by completing my work experience so it becomes a norm
for me. If it is a norm for me I could incorporate this skill to my future career easily.

Treating others with respect is also one of the important professional skills I have. I
have been taught how to respect people from young due to my culture. Treating others
with respect will make people doing tasks easier and run smoother because there would
not be any conflict. Nobody would experience prejudice.

,Also, in the workplace, the individual will have to do what the person with authority like
the manager or a senior team leader says to the best of their ability, listening carefully
and following procedures and policies. Doing all these things doing work experience
develops them professionally further into any profession in the healthcare sector.

There are personal attributes that a person would need to work in a health and social
care sector.
During work experience the person would have to have good communication skills.
During the work experience the person will have to talk to different people like
colleagues, service users and even family members. In the work experience the person
may be asked to finish a certain task at a certain time, the person may have to be
professional during difficult situations like conflict with service users and or family
members or they may not be able to do anything that puts service users and or staff in
danger.

The work experience would give them that opportunity to develop some attributes like
good communication skills, their confidence and being professional. Work experience
develops the individual's previous attributes like their confidence, makes them to act
more responsible and that is due to responsibility of tasks being given to them, it helps
them learn to be more patient with people when working with them and supporting
them. During work experience, the individual will be working with different people, some
might not understand English because English is not their first language. So the
individual might have to be compassionate and patient with them and not be angry at
them.

My strengths include having good team work, good problem solving skills, being able to
work under pressure, being able to adapt to situations, and being organized. These are
my skills. With work experience these personal skills and attributes would be developed
even further. Knowing I am able to work with people when we are put as a team and
able to work under pressure are all important skills that I possess. Being able to work
as a team is important and work experience would give me that opportunity to work with
people with different ethnicities . And it would enhance those skills.

I don’t only have all strengths but also weaknesses. This weakness is something I
believe my work placement will help manage which is the passion of wanting to assist
everyone. I am a person that likes helping people which is a good thing that comes with
its weakness. Because I am helping people I am taking more responsibilities from
people which cause me to be overwhelmed. I don’t manage well when multi- tasking.
There are opportunities that come with my work placement. I would be able to access
the internet so this would be a problem for me if I need to call a loved one.

P2 Discuss ways in which work experience can inform own career choices and help
prepare for employment in the health and social care sector.

Experience in various health and social care professions is advantageous since it can
aid in my decision regarding which of the careers available in health care would best
suit me or that I should pursue in the future. This is evident in completing work
experience.
For instance, if I prefer working with adults rather than children, I might decide to work
at a residential home rather than a primary school. Not only would I gain knowledge of
the practices and guidelines that could aid me in my future job in the health and social
care sector, but I would also determine whether I wanted to work in a residential home
or in any other setting within the health and social care sector. “Aldworth, Carolyn 2016”

I may know that approach since I would have that experience. If I didn't like working in the
residential home, I might think about other employment options, such as working with children
in a nursery, a charity, or in a hospital.
Experience in the workplace provides several benefits. With job experience, I may ask those
who have this knowledge from people about the kinds of positions the individual is looking for
in the health and social care sector through the recommendations. As a result, students might
be able to receive guidance on the career path for the area of the health and social care
industry they wish to work in. “Aldworth, Carolyn 2016”

I might also be able to gain connections with people who most likely work in the health and
social care industry, which could lead to people that could recommend me and help me get
jobs there. This might improve my chances of finding employment due to the connections. It
would just increase those chances.
Clarifying expectations at work is therefore helpful. Because of my previous work experience, I
will be more prepared for employment in the health and social care sector because they are
aware of the expectations that are placed when they work in the organization within the health
care sector.

Similar to during work, there are standards that the person must adhere to in order to deliver a
safe practice. I might learn about the standards we must uphold at work, such as respecting
people's diversity and equality, their privacy and dignity, knowing health, safety, and security,
comprehending and putting care principles into practice, and preparing for employment in the

, field. Due to the experience and familiarity with this field, this could then help me get
employment in the health and social care area.
I may be able to obtain experience in this health and social care sector field by enhancing
important abilities like organization and interpersonal skills, which are developed by seeing and
listening to the actions of other staff members and by seeking assistance when necessary.

M1 Analyse how work experience can provide support in gaining a realistic
understanding of the health and social care sector

Because I have dealt with various service users who had various problems that required
care within a real organization in the past like a charity. The health and social care gives
you a practical grasp of what the health and social care sector is. A practical grasp as in
the tasks and responsibilities involve in the role working in an organization like a care
home, hospital, clinic.
And shows that there are training put in place to be taken to continue working in the
health and social care sector.
In some circumstances, I can gain experience working in this prospective field of study
and get a head start on understanding the protocols and rules in the setting, which
would support me when I ultimately enter the real career field. If the person has
experience working in their future career, they will be able to know what duties and
obligations are involved, or they can obtain this information from individuals who have
expertise in the future careers they wish to pursue.

During my job placement, I would pick up new skills that I would need to use to adapt to
various scenarios and that will help would me acquire things like time management
abilities that you may use to your advantage in the near future.
Because I would have experience working in the health and social care sector where
there are policies and procedures. I am now aware that there are similar policies and
procedures in place in every setting that surrounds organizations in the health and
social sector. I also understand why it is crucial to adhere to these policies and
procedures. An example of policies and procedures in a hospital are complaints policy,
and equality act. Similar to a care home, equality act and the care act 2000. Another
example of a policy and procedure in a charity and care home are code of conduct and
staff procedures.

I now understand that I am obligated to abide by them since doing otherwise would
violate the policies of the organization that works in the health and social care sector.
