Introduction
Organisations require high performance from their employees, one of the things that may
increase job performance is the employee’s engagement to their job. Geethalakshmi and
Rodrigues (2017) states that there is a connection between engagement and the results of the
organisation which is why the organisation will see engagement as an important element in
the day to day running of the organisation. Employees are aware of the importance of
engagement in the work, this results in them striving to increase their engagement to have
better performance and complete their work efficiently.
The purpose of this research is to go deeper in to engagement and burnout and determine
whether there is a relationship between the two, it is also important to determine the
dimensions of engagement and burnout and determine how they affect each other.

The first variable identified is engagement, this is the independent variable that will be used
to assess whether it has an impact on the dependent variable’

The second variable is burnout, this is the dependent variable because it is being measured
against the independent variable which is engagement.
