ASSIGNMENT 3 AUGUST- SEPT 2023
,QUESTION 1: PLANNING FOR INTEGRATION AND INCLUSION WITHIN THE LIFE
SKILLS PROGRAMME
1.1 Integrating a daily program for Grade R life skills can be an effective way to enhance
learning and development in young children. Use the theme: “Healthy Living” to
explain how you would apply each of the following key factors in planning the theme
(12)
Introduction to the theme
Integration of different cultures
Opportunities for learners to touch and feel objects
Relating theme to real-life experiences
Use the following space to answer question 1.1.
Introduction to the theme
To introduce the theme of "Healthy Living" to Grade R learners, I would start by discussing the
importance of taking care of our bodies and making healthy choices. I would use child-friendly
language and visuals, such as colorful posters or pictures, to capture their attention and spark their
interest. I could engage them in a group discussion, asking questions like "What does it mean to
be healthy?" and "Why is it important to eat nutritious food?" This would set the foundation for
exploring the theme further.
Integration of different cultures
To integrate different cultures within the theme of "Healthy Living," I would incorporate diverse
food traditions, physical activities, and wellness practices from various cultures. For example, I
could introduce students to different types of healthy foods commonly consumed in different
cultures and explain their nutritional benefits. I would encourage students to share their own
cultural practices related to health and well-being, fostering appreciation and understanding of
different backgrounds and traditions.
Opportunities for learners to touch and feel objects
To provide opportunities for learners to touch and feel objects related to "Healthy Living," I would create
hands-on activities and sensory experiences. For instance, I could set up a sensory table with various fruits
and vegetables, allowing students to explore the different textures, shapes, and colors. I could also bring in
real-life objects, such as exercise equipment, gardening tools, or cooking utensils, for students to handle
and interact with, enhancing their understanding of healthy living concepts.

, Relating theme to real-life experiences (4)
To relate the theme of "Healthy Living" to real-life experiences, I would plan activities that connect
the concept to their daily lives. This could include inviting a nutritionist or a health professional to
talk to the students about healthy eating habits, engaging in physical exercises or yoga sessions
together, or visiting a local garden or farm to learn about the process of growing healthy food. By
incorporating real-life experiences, students can make meaningful connections and understand the
practical application of healthy living principles.
By applying these key factors in planning the theme of "Healthy Living" for Grade R life skills, I aim
to create an engaging and inclusive learning experience that integrates different cultures, provides
tactile experiences, and connects the theme to students' real-life contexts. This approach
promotes holistic learning, cultivates cultural appreciation, and empowers students to make
healthy choices in their own lives.
1.2 Learners in every classroom are diverse. Hence, we need to accommodate the
diverselearning styles of every learner as we plan to teach.
Using the theme “personal hygiene” complete questions in table 1.1 when planning
three appropriate activities to address the three learning styles so that all learners
are involvedin learning [3X3=9 marks]
