The field of comparative and international education has undergone several phases of historical evolution as
it developed and matured over time. Here are four key phases that highlight its progression:Exploratory
Phase (Late 19th to Early 20th Century): During this phase, scholars began to take an interest in comparing
different educational systems and practices across countries. The focus was largely on describing and
cataloging educational systems, curricula, and teaching methods in various parts of the world.

Plan your answers before you write them in their final form. Do not answer all the questions.
Only the first five questions answered will be marked.
Based on past experience, some students leave out questions and then expect the lecturers
to reassemble their assignments. This is a practically impossible task, given the number of
assignments that the lecturers receive. Therefore, please make sure that you answer all the
questions and submit them in a single document.

General guidelines that apply to Assignment 03
Once you have decided which five questions (questions 1(a) and 1(b)
are compulsory) you are going to answer, plan the answers carefully.
Make sure that you provide each essay with a suitable introduction and
conclusion.
Include suitable headings and subheadings in the body of an essay,
where relevant.
Make sure that you do not deviate from the themes under discussion in
the essays (i.e., do not include irrelevant facts and/or opinions).
Make sure that your present facts in chronological order, where
appropriate.
Ensure that the sentences and the paragraphs in an essay follow one
another in a logical manner, in other words, the essay should constitute
a tightly integrated whole; it should not consist of loose, sweeping
statements.
Plagiarism is a cardinal sin. Do not copy another student’s work. You
may work on the assignment in a study group, but your are expected to
submit your own, unique assignment.
If you obtain all the information that you use in an essay from the
prescribed textbook, you do not need to include a bibliography or text
references. However, if you use information from any other sources, you
must include references (in the body of the essay) and a bibliography
(directly after the essay).
The length of an answer should be proportionate to the number of marks
allocated to the specific question.
