Task 1
One thing that is certain is that whenever we use language, we reflect who we are.
1. What is your understanding of a home language? Mention your own home
language.
My home language is IsiXhosa and it’s one of the official languages of South Africa and
is widely spoken by the Xhosa people, primarily in the Eastern Cape province. It's part
of the Nguni Bantu language family and holds cultural significance for the Xhosa
community. IsiXhosa has a rich history, with its own unique phonology, grammar, and
vocabulary.
As for me, I speak Xhosa and IsiZulu
2. How many languages can you speak or understand, and how did you learn
them
Two languages, Xhosa and IsiZulu
You learn both languages through its vowels which are distinct and its tones are
important in the pronunciation of the words. Tones in the language can drastically
change the meaning of a word. Xhosa is one of the most difficult languages to learn
because of its complex structure.
Whereas you learn Zulu firstly by pressing one side of the tongue against the side of the
jaw. Then, without shifting the tip of the tongue from the hard palate as if you were
going to produce the n sound. Press one side of the tongue against the side of the jaw.
Then, without shifting the tip of the tongue from the hard palate, withdraw the side
