1.2 Organizational concepts
Organizational concepts refer to the series of historical phenomena grouped
into periods in which the historical phenomena have relationships and the
grouping gives this relationship meaning, For example, colonialism or World
War I.
1.3 Unique concepts (5)
These are concepts which apply to specific people,places and events. These
are derived from a specific context and are used learners in a specific historical
enquiry to describe, explain and demonstrate understanding. For example,
Nelson Mandela, South Africa, armed struggle and the Rivonia Trial.
1.4 Substantive concepts (5)
This means learners are taught ideas about the content knowledge of history.
This could, for example, be about slavery, African kingdoms, the Russian
Revolution, colonialism and the Zulu Kingdom.. In the process learners are
taught about historical events and figures in a meaningful and intelligible
manner. There are three types of substantive concepts : Unique concepts,
Organizational concepts and Thematic or Inclusive concepts.

2.1 Diagnostic assessment.
Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to
determine students, individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills
prior to instruction. It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and to
