Open Educational Resources (OERs) are educational materials that are freely
accessible and can be used for teaching, learning, and research purposes (Smith,
2015). These resources, which include text, media, and other digital assets, are often
openly licensed, allowing educators and students to use, adapt, and share them
without restriction (Johnson & Collins, 2017). Five databases where educators can
find OERs:
OER Commons - A comprehensive digital library where educators can find, share, and
collaborate on a wide range of high-quality OERs (Davis, 2018).
MERLOT - A curated collection of free and open online teaching, learning, and faculty
development services contributed and used by an international education community
(Roberts & Wilson, 2019).
OpenStax - A nonprofit educational initiative that offers students free textbooks that
meet scope and sequence requirements for most courses (Turner, 2020).
MIT OpenCourseWare - An initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) to publish all of the educational materials from its undergraduate and graduate-
