ASSIGNMENT 2 (SEMESTER 2)

UNIQUE NUMBER: 734825

DUE DATE: 12 September 2023

1. Case study: addressing diversity within law enforcement agencies

South Africa is a country that comprises of people of different races, cultures, religions, languages,
sexualities and more other things. The first black democratically elected president, President Nelson
Mandela referred to South Africa as a rainbow nation. While South Africans share the important
dimensions of the human species, biological and environmental differences separate and distinguish us as
individuals and as groups. The vast stray of differences constitutes a spectrum of human diversity and cause
us to perceive and interpret similar situations differently. One of the major challenges facing South African
organisations is managing workforce diversity.

Working with people whose values, attitude, believes, perception, languages, and customs are very
different from one’s own can make for costly misunderstandings, miscommunication, misperception,
misinterpretation, and misevaluation. South Africa has overtime been described as a radically pluralist
society where race and ethnicity are the most visible dimensions of its diversity. Many cultural differences
exist between ethnic groups such as Euro Africans, Asian Africans, and black Africans. The imbalances
between the different ethnic groups in South Africa result in management imbalances.

N.B: study the above case study before answering the question below.
