INTRODUCTION
In considering an African philosophy of education as most meaningful for educators in an
African context, it is essential to first understand the core concepts that form the foundation
of this philosophy. Two of these key concepts are uBuntu and communality, which are
deeply rooted in African culture and philosophy and shape the way education is perceived
and practiced. This essay will explore the significance of these concepts and examine the
challenge of establishing an African identity for the philosophy of education to confront the
problem of the "tyranny of colonialism". Furthermore, it will provide a critical account of why
an African philosophy of education is most meaningful for educators in the African context.
