1. INTRODUCTION

This is the second assignment for HRM3704 semester 1. It marks the last
and final assignment of HRM for semester 1 (2017). This assignment
introduces are us to the concepts of Utilitarianism, Kantian (Deontology)
and Justice, The alternative workplace options and the challenges that may
be experienced when you switch to alternative options, Just to name a few.
The purpose of this assignment is to test the ability of students whether
they are able to apply the above mentioned headings to the case study.
Below I am going to apply all the given heading to case study, as requested
on the assignment. I hope this assignment will highlight all the required
facts accordingly.

Question 1

1.1 Critically discuss the expatriation cycle used by Sipho Ngubeni to fill the
administrative position in New Zealand. (The cycle involves selection,
training, development and repatriation.)
a. Selection
Selection practices typically include screening, the employment
interview and psychometric testing, all in which can be viewed as
strategic tools supporting business strategy.
- Example
When John was selected, a job description or job specification were
not consulted because John was appointed even if he did not possess
the skills, knowledge and experience required for the Administrative
post, meaning a proper procedure for selection of John was not
followed.


b. Training
Joseph was not given any training as he was preparing to depart to
New Zealand, as Sipho said that training was not necessary because
Joseph had been in New Zealand before


c. Development
Proper development was not established, where development could be
defined as a process where the employee with the support of his/her
employer undergoes various training programs to enhance his/her
skills and acquire new knowledge and skills. Joseph was not trained
nor developed for his Administrative post as we have seen in the case
study.
d. Repatriation
A proper/ successful repatriation process was not followed, O'Sullivan
(2002) define a successful repatriation transition outcome as,. “one in
