you have full seven days to work on this.
• While you are using examples of different literatures such as folktales, short stories and
others, you are discouraged from re-writing the story. Instead, refer/quote/summaries the
text to strengthen your argument.
• Please use the mark allocation as a guide to the length of expected answers.
1. Folktales, as a form of African folklore, were used by African traditional societies to
preserve and impart to future generations valuable moral lessons. Using the above
statement as a point of departure, discuss the relevance and role of folktales in
contemporary South Africa. Your discussion and arguments must be accompanied by
examples from your indigenous knowledge and language systems and from what you
have studied in AFL2602 module guide. Again, please do not copy and paste from the
study guide as you will be penalised for that.

2. (a) Women continue to exercise great leadership and managerial skills in African
societies with regards to management and leadership functions around socio-
political and economic roles.
Discuss and use relevant examples to validate this statement and explicitly explain
how these female figures exercise their roles. Your discussion must be accompanied
by African women public figures as well as examples from African literary texts of
your choice. In other words, you are encouraged to use African female figures as
well as female figures from your language. (10)
(b) Which traditional women leadership skills, and social and management practices can
be adopted by our women and explain how they can be applied in the new
dispensation / new South Africa including the tackling of the vicious corona virus
(Covid-19)? (5)
(c) Gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa is another pandemic. What do you
think, should be done to tackle this pandemic? (5)
(d) Bullying in South African schools could also be marked as a pandemic, what role do
you think African communities could do to prevent, and eventually stop, this
pandemic? Discuss this statement and do not be afraid to voice out your opinions
while using that which you learnt from the study guide. (5)

3. In African societies, land is a valued commodity, an asset and a topical issue.
