Empirische Opdracht
Dit verslag onderzoekt verschillende statistieken van studenten die het eerstejaars vak
‘Beschrijvende Statistiek’ aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam volgen. Deze studenten
behoren tot de populatie, waaruit een steekproef (n = 316) is genomen door deze studenten
een enquête te laten invullen. Dit verslag kent drie variabelen die worden omschreven volgens
beschrijvende statistieken. Tot slot wordt van één van die variabelen de toetsende
statistieken beschreven.
Univariate beschrijvende statistieken
De eerste variabele is leeftijd. Het is een categorische variabele, opgedeeld in twee
categorieën op nominaal meetniveau: ‘21 jaar en jonger’ of ‘22 jaar en ouder’. Omdat leeftijd
een categorische variabele is, is er geen gemiddelde of mediaan. Wel kent deze variabele een
modus, de meest voorkomende categorie. Dat is de categorie ‘21 jaar en jonger’ (bijlage A,
tabel 1).
De tweede variabele is Relaties met studiegenoten. Dit is een kwantitatieve variabele.
Hiervoor is de School Vragenlijst (SVL) gebruikt, bestaande uit stellingen (Vorst, 2008).
Participanten geven aan of ze het er helemaal mee oneens (1) tot helemaal mee eens (5) zijn.
Dit bepaalt de mate waarin studenten een relatie hebben met hun medestudenten en is
uitgedrukt in een getal tussen 1 (geen of zwakke relatie met medestudenten) en 5 (goede
relatie met medestudenten). Deze variabele kent een range van 3.31 (bijlage A, tabel 2) en een
gemiddelde van 3.90 (bijlage A, tabel 4). Er is sprake van één uitschieter (bijlage B, figuur 1)
met een waarde lager dan 2.38 (bijlage C, berekening 1) Het gemiddelde is een
representatieve centrummaat, omdat er ondanks de uitschieter sprake is van een
normaalverdeling en geen scheve verdeling (bijlage B, figuur 2).
De laatste kwantitatieve variabele is Zelfverzekerdheid. De score is gebaseerd op de
Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), met tien stelling over zelfverzekerdheid (Franck et al.,
