THE COURSE PLAN
Name of the Teacher Name of the Student Level of the student
Monique Chanel Hall Alberto Mofo Minguez B1 intermediate
Syllabus Type:
Multi-syllabus
Course Aims:
By the end of the course, the student will have improved this English speaking, writing, and understanding
abilities. He will be better able to listen and understand fast speech and he will be better able to speak with
fluency on different daily topics with clear pronunciation. He will also be able to speak with fluency in the
work environment.
Course Rationale: (700 – 1000 words)
For Alberto, I chose a multi-syllabus lesson. I chose this as I believe he requires a course that will primarily
focus on speaking and listening skills as he is already confident in his writing skills. I will also keep grammar
lessons to a minimum as Alberto spend 8 years focusing on grammar lessons. I have gathered that Alberto
struggles to listen for gist as well as extracting key information from conversations. He also lacks confidence
in his responses primarily due to the fact that he feels his accent will prevent him from correct pronunciation.
Even though he feels confident in his writing skills, there is definitely room for improvement so within the first
5 hours of the lesson I included some reading and writing tasks in order to evaluate his abilities and adapt the
syllabus when needed.
The interests Alberto mentioned in the interview can easily be used for lesson material. Alberto likes films,
football, music, and travel. I therefore decided to use these as topics in the beginning of the skill lessons to help
Alberto relax and be comfortable enough with the process of one to one before we move on with more work-
related topics. Alberto has a good reason for improving his English which in turn gives him a lot of motivation
to reach his goal. Due to Alberto being well motivated, I will have the opportunity to use a greater variety of
activities in the lessons. His interests are universal and can be adapted for topics of class work as well as
homework activities.
I chose speaking and listening as my primary target skill because Alberto specifically said he needs to work on
his speaking and listening abilities and he would like to increase his technical vocabulary. Other areas will also
be evaluated and not only speaking and listening
The reason behind the structure of this lesson was to fit the student and his needs. The lesson is well-balanced,
entertaining, fun, and filled with interest peaking activities so that Alberto can be intrigued and not bored with
the activities which in turn will motivated him to work hard and learn more.
Hour 1 of the lesson will focus on speaking and listening. We will engage in a series of small talk conversations
in order to get him comfortable with speaking English and get him settles in a one to one environment. These
conversations will allow me to see which areas he is struggling with. This in turn will allow me to change the
syllabus accordingly concerning his ability to use these skills. Alberto will also receive a feedback form so that
we can discuss how he would like to receive feedback.
