PLEASE USE AS REFERENCE :)
ASSIGNMENT 1 (TOTB 140 Hour): Teaching Methods
Name and Surname: Fahemah Mohamed
1. Please explain which teaching method you feel is best to use when you qualify as a teacher
and why?
When I become a qualified a teacher, I will use the following teaching methods:
- The Communicative language teaching method or CLT method
- and Suggestopedia.
The reason I believe in the CLT Method because this method focuses on instilling the proper
grammatical usage from the very beginning of learning and builds the students' foundation. The
CLT approach also encourages students to learn through problem solving, tasked assignments
and actual participation.
I would create Role playing lessons as well as group activities, which would encourage students
to practice problem solving, allow them to actively participate and improve their
communicative and interpersonal skills. I feel this would also build confidence in their learning
experience.
I will also make use of Suggestopedia, by creating a calming and relaxed learning environment
with music and meditation. I believe that when students are relaxed and comfortable, they are
able to better understand information.
Suggestopedia will be used in conjunction with the CLT method, together they encourage
students to be better focused whilst completing tasks and activities.
2. Please also reference examples of when you were a primary, secondary, or tertiary learner
and what method(s) your teacher employed that most resonated with you.
In Primary School – My teachers often used Suggestopedia. Music was used in the background of
lessons, which relaxed and comforted me. I felt comfortable in the classroom and it made me more
open to learn.
In Secondary School/High School – The Silent Way Method was often used in the classroom. This
method resonated with me because the teacher would give us group tasks and we would have to
complete it on our own. This encouraged problem solving and communicative skills.
