of material things and common-place statements of recognized emotions.

Are any reactions against Realism welcomed, even by the Public?

I agree with the statement to the extent that many reactions against realism may have been
welcomed by the general public, however there were numerous works which were not. A It is
a fact that Conceptual Art is art created for society that deals with societal issues and values.
Conceptual Art is art that intentionally goes against the tradition of creating ‘pretty’ or
aesthetic art. A Many times in Conceptual Art, acts against were unwelcome. This is because
Conceptual Art intentionally sets out to confront the viewer as it wanted intellectual
engagement between the viewer and the work to enhance and deepen understanding. A
Realism was not the only movement that could be said to confine itself to common-place
observation of material things and common-place statements of recognized emotion as
