Lecture 4-12-2018 autonomous nervous system II
Content lecture
 repetton of pharmacology
 exercise: cardiac and vascular efects
 efects of nicotne related drugs
o nicotne is toxicology
o aferent nerves
o eferent nerves
 baroreceptors stmulaton
 renal sympathetc denervaton

 Exercise: sympathetc actvaton:
o Increase in cardiac output, redistributon of blood fow, tuning of organ
functon, increase in oxygen use.g
o Normal cardiac output: 5L/min; max cardiac output: 25 L/min
o Normal heart rate: 70 bpm; max 200 (-250) bpm
o Stoke volume 1.g5  a heart cannot double (In short term)
o Lungs take up more oxygen
o Blood is not going to the GI tract but to the lungs, heart and muscles.g
o Heart:
 Coronary dilaton smooth muscle B2 receptors
 Sympathetc nervous system: noradrenalin will stmulate B2-
receptors in the coronary arteries to dilate them.g
 Tachycardia B1 receptors on sinus node
 Heart rate goes up, that is a B1 efect.g n the Sinus node are
B1 receptors and they are stmulated by adrenaline and
noradrenaline.g
o Lungs:
 Smooth muscle B2 receptors bronchodilaton
 Adrenaline
 Easier oxygen uptake (3x as much as normal), more blood
fows through the lungs.g
o GI tract:
 Smooth muscle a1 receptors contract.g
 Noradrenaline
 Blood will not go through the GI tract but go to the urine
system (kidney)
 Spleen is also contractng (spleen hurts when exercising)

,  Noradrenaline
o Hemodynamic efects of inter
venously injecton of NA in a
computer simulaton 
o There is an increase in blood
pressure.g 
o Noradrenalin has a high infnity of
alpha receptors  vasoconstricton
 increase resistance  higher
blood pressure.g
o Heart rate only goes up in higher
doses.g
o Affinity NA: alpha 1b beta 1 ; no
affinity for B2 receptors.g
 You need more
noradrenaline to increase the heart rate
o Beta 1  increase in HR  vasoconstricton: alpha1  increase in R 
increase in BP.g
 Adrenaline:
o Vasodilataton, increase in
heart rate and blood goes up
and down.g
o Affinity: A : beta 2 b beta 1 b
alpha 1 receptors leading to:
vasodilaton, tachycardia.g
o In low concentraton it will
only bind to B2 receptors:
Bronchodilaton and dilataton
of coronary arteries and
muscles.g
o When you give more
adrenaline, the heart rate
goes up.g
o When you give again more
adrenaline, it will also bind to
a receptors and cause
vasocontracton.g
