INTRODUCTION
Load-shedding, the practice of cutting off electric power in parts of a network when the system
is overloaded, has become a common challenge in South Africa. The uneven supply of
electricity disrupts not only daily life but significantly affects small and medium enterprises
(SMEs). This essay explores how load-shedding impacts the logistics and operations of SMEs
in South Africa and suggests ways these enterprises can mitigate the impact using lean and
Six Sigma methodologies.
