,1 INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION TO STUDENTS
1.1. INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS
• The cover page that appears on Page 2 should serve as the first page of your complete
portfolio for 2024 academic year.
• All information required on the cover page of your portfolio should be duly completed.
• Please type your portfolio because handwritten portfolios won’t be marked.
• The length of the portfolio should be 100 pages and below. Portfolios exceeding 100 pages
won’t be marked.
• There will be no mark for students who submitted blank pages.
• Please note that second attempts are granted to students who have valid reasons, no
student is entitled to second attempt. It is the lecturer’s prerogative to grant a second attempt
to a student if he/she (lecturer) deems fit.
• You will not be granted an extension for this assignment, so students who are working while
studying should ensure that they do their teaching practice before the due date.
• We advise you to submit this assignment a week (5 business days) after you have completed
your teaching practice. Your lecturer will enforce this and students who do not comply with
this instruction will be heavily punished.
• Ten percent per week will be deducted from the student’s total mark for late submissions.
• Upon receiving each portfolio, the lecturer will verify the student’s submission against the
placement dates from TPO and deduct marks accordingly.
• We discourage you from engaging in teaching practice without placement letters from TPO,
however students who find themselves forced to do this, should inform the lecturer via email
when they enter their second week of Teaching practice without placement letters from TPO.
• We encourage you to finish your portfolio during teaching practice and use the additional
one week for attaching the required evidence before submitting your work.
• You will not be given an extension because of delayed placement; hence we request you to
inform us immediately if you experience delays with the TPO office with regard to
placements.
• You should do teaching practice for this module in the FET phase (Grades 10-12); failure to
comply with this requirement will lead to a student getting a zero, subsequently failing this
module.
• You are required to teach one of your major subjects for this module, e.g. if you major with
Accounting and Economics, you will choose either Accounting or Economics.
• When submitting your portfolio, please remove unnecessary pages as this increase the
number of pages unnecessarily.
• Use your student number, your name and surname to save your portfolio ready for
submission, e.g. 12345678_Myname_Surname.
• Plagiarised work won’t be marked, and disciplinary actions will be taken against the student.
• Your placement letter from TPO should be attached as the second page of this portfolio,
because we won’t mark portfolios that do not have placement letters.
• Attach your attendance register at the end of your portfolio.

1.2. INFORMATION TO STUDENTS
This tutorial letter contains the portfolio template to be used to complete Assignment 50 for
TPS3703 (Teaching Practice III for FET, Grades 10-12). You must complete this portfolio for
Teaching methodology as specified in the third year of your curriculum for the stream you are
completing.
Please read the instructions and guidelines carefully before attempting to complete the
portfolio. This portfolio counts 80% of your final mark for this module. Also read the information
regarding lesson plans.
No portfolio received after 20 September 2024 will be marked. You will have to reregister
and repeat your teaching practice during the following year. Therefore, make sure that you
submit your portfolio in time so that Unisa receives it by the due date.
NOTE: The school visit is a very important part of your training since you will receive advice and
support that could be valuable for your preparation as a teacher. However, the mark you receive
for the school visit does not count towards your marks for this course, as at this stage, we
cannot confirm that every student will be evaluated. Therefore, if it happens that you do not get
placement, your marks will not be affected in any way.
If you have any queries regarding the portfolio, you should contact your lecturer for this
module on the following contact details:
Email address: gcababn@unisa.ac.za
Contact number: 012 352 4037.
Please do not contact your lecturer regarding placements or school visits. See Tutorial
Letter 102 for contact details in this regard.
Contact the Assignments Section (see Tutorial Letter 101) regarding the receipt of
assignments or to check the status of your assignment on MYUNISA on your student
record.
