Activity 1.1 Write a paragraph on your experiences as a learner in a
Mathematics class when you were in school. Write at least one good
experience and one bad experience.

Good experience: I was very fortunate because I had very good Mathematics
teachers when I was in primary school and high school. When I was in primary
school, I soon realized that when you listen in class you will achieve good marks and
understand Mathematics better. I loved doing Mathematics in primary school and I
also had a better understanding of Mathematics. I believe that Mathematics is a very
important subject to have in school because we use Mathematics in our everyday
lives.

My bad experience was when one day I did study for a test, but the teacher gave us
a grade 11 Mathematics class test instead of a grade 10 Mathematics test. I did my
best and then I failed the class test. It was not a very good experience for me.
Luckily the test did not count, and I could still study hard for the other tests. But I like
to do my best in everything I do in life, so I like it to work and study hard.

Activity 1.2 - Picture 2

In picture 2 it looks like the teacher is sitting next to the learners and explaining a
Mathematics lesson to them by using blocks. The teacher uses apparatus to help
the learners understand better. This is a very effective way of learning Mathematics
because the learner is learning by seeing and doing. It will help the learners to
remember the lesson better. There is an interaction between the learners and the
teacher and it also makes the lesson fun and interesting. The learners look happy
and interested in what he teacher are teaching to them.

, Activity 1.2 - Picture 6

In this picture the teacher is holding up a shape and the learner is standing up next
to the teacher that can be a indication that the teacher is using the learner to explain
the topic better to the class. All the learners in the class looks interested in the
lesson. All the learners are looking at the teacher and you can clearly see that they
are all busy listening to what the teacher is saying. In the way the learners are sitting
it looks like a group activity that is taking place in the classroom. The learners look
happy and they seem very interested in the lesson.

Activity 1.3 (number 3)

1. Teachers must select high-quality tasks that allow students to learn the
content by figuring out their own strategies and solutions.
2. Teachers must ask well-designed questions that allow students to verify and
relate their strategies.
3. Teachers must listen to student responses and observe student work,
determining in the moment how to extend and formalize student thinking.
4. Teachers must explain the content of the subject thoroughly to ensure that the
learners understand the work and that they will be able to solve all the
problems they have to deal with when doing Mathematics.
5. Learners should listen to the teacher to ensure that they understand the
workload.
6. Learners learn mathematics by doing mathematics and they do Mathematics
by learning Mathematics.
7. Learners must accept that we all can make mistakes in Mathematics
sometimes, but the most important thing is that the learners must learn from
their mistakes.
8. Learners must ask questions if they don’t understand.
