Hoofstuk 1

Mlibo is hiding behind a rubbish bin and he looks at the almost empty
parking lot behind Rondebosch Shopping Centre. He sees no one is looking
so he quickly runs across the parking lot to the dam wall and jumps down
to the bottom. He runs along the dam’s wall. He keeps checking that no
one is following him. He stops at a hole high in the wall. His fingers reach
up and get a grip. He puts his foot in a crack and hoists himself up while
he presses his body against the wall so he doesn’t fall backwards. He sticks
his hand in and moves a piece of cardboard aside. He hoists himself
through the narrow entrance. The five boys all live in Thabo’s shelter
where they have their own beds and blankets; and they receive decent
food. The boys make money by gathering cardboard and newspapers to
sell. They wonder where Mlibo is; they hope he isnt with another gang
again- hes been beaten up twice. The boys get some water. The soccer
game starts in two hours.
Hoofstuk 2

Mlibo comes across huge sewer rats. He gets out of the hole and sees a
young florist selling her flowers. Her attention isn’t fully aimed on her
flowers; it seems as if she is looking for someone. For the past few weeks
Mlibo has been working for Lynch. He receives small packets that are held
firmly in brown paper. He must keep them safe until further instructions
are given. He is happy because it seems as if the gang is letting him in.
The florist glances at him. The sun is baking at his bald head. The florist
looks around carefully and then approaches him slowly. She hands him a
note with an address; but he can’t read. He thinks about who he can ask
for help. He asks Louis.
