Course Description: This course focuses on the theory and practice of written
communication, focusing on contextual writing, research, teamwork, audience
awareness, and the planning and production of polished professional and pre-
professional documents, such as memos, letters, reports, and procedures.
Prerequisites: WRIT 1301 & 1302 with a C- or better and junior level standing
Learning Objectives: Rhetorical Skills. These are writing skills that are
fundamental to a student’s ability to produce good business prose in any writing
situation. Students should leave the course with the ability to do the following:
· Write in context: Tailor written communications to a specific audience for a specific
purpose
· Conduct Research: Select, evaluate, and properly cite a variety of credible sources
· Plan Documents: Employ writing as a process by planning, creating, and
completing a variety of business documents; participating in the drafting process by
giving and receiving feedback, revising and editing; and by applying rules of
document design
· Produce Texts: Understand and utilize the hallmarks of effective business writing to
produce a variety of ethical, cogent, coherent, and correct professional business
documents
· Embrace Teamwork: Successfully collaborate with peers in large and /or small
groups to produce effective written or oral projects; manage team conflict; and
