,Dear Student
As part of this tutorial letter, we wish to inform you that Unisa has implemented a transformation
charter based on five pillars and eight dimensions. In response to this charter, we have also
placed curriculum transformation high on the agenda. For your information, curriculum
transformation includes the following pillars: student-centred scholarship, the pedagogical
renewal of teaching and assessment practices, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and
the infusion of African epistemologies and philosophies. These pillars and their principles will be
integrated at both the programme and module levels, as a phased-in approach. You will notice
the implementation thereof in your modules, and we encourage you to fully embrace these
changes during your studies at Unisa.
1 INTRODUCTION TO THE MODULE
We are pleased to welcome you to this module, Life Skills: Performing Arts, Visual Arts,
Music and Physical Education in Foundation Phase and hope that you will find it both
interesting and rewarding. Please note that this module consists of three sections which make
up the Life skills module. We will do our best to make your study of this module successful. You
will be well on your way to success if you start studying early in the year and resolve to do the
assignment(s) properly. You will receive a number of tutorial letters during the year. A tutorial
letter is our way of communicating with you about teaching, learning and assessment.
The new language policy of Unisa, 2015, recommends that, from now and henceforth
English will be the only medium used for Teaching and Learning.
All first, second and third year modules i.e. NQF level 5 and 6 modules, will be offered in
English from 2019 going forward. This means that all tutorial letters, study guides and
examination question papers will be in ENGLISH ONLY.
You are therefore expected to answer all assignments and question papers in the
language used for Teaching and Learning, namely, English.
I trust that this message reaches everyone and that you will respond accordingly.
This tutorial letter contains important information about the scheme of work, resources and
assignments for this module. We urge you to read it carefully and to keep it at hand when
working through the study material, preparing the assignment(s), preparing for the examination
and addressing questions to your lecturers.
In this tutorial letter (101), you will find the assignments, assessment criteria, instructions on the
preparation and submission of the assignments as well as examination guidelines. It also
provides all the information you need with regard to the prescribed study material and other
resources and how to obtain them. Please study this information carefully and make sure that
you obtain the prescribed material as soon as possible.
