Case study A
married couple, Rati (30 years) and Ben (33 years) are blessed with two children, 10 and 15 years old.
They have been married for five years. Since Ben was retrenched at work, he has been abusing drugs and
alcohol. Thus, he fails to control his temper when he is spending time with his family. The couple argue
every day, even about small issues. At times, the arguments result in physical violence. Rati has told her
close cousin about the ongoing abuse she has been experiencing. She has indicated that Ben frequently
insults her and has become physically violent on several occasions. Rati is concerned about her well-being
and that of her children.
